The 39-2 seems to shoot better, at least for me. I've extensively fired the Model 59, and the 39 shoots much better, i.e.: much tighter groups. The curved back strap just seems to fit my hand better. One thing to look for is a pin punch mark on the front of the extractor. I have seen no definitive descrpiption of either one other than -7 was two piece barrel and -8 was slab side barrel.
